Hate the new windows 8 start menu on your desktop computer? I do. Luckily there’s Classic Shell!
Classic Shell lets you add the old start menu to Windows 8. You also get the choice to disable the Windows 8 start screen and to skip the start screen when logging into windows.
It’s not as pretty as the actual windows 7 menu, after you hit “programs” it just pops up a context menu instead of replacing the white area with the program list… but it gets the job done for people who want more than titles.
To make it prettier, download the Winaero Skin Pack for Classic Shell which skins it: http://winaero.com/blog/introducing-winaeros-exclusive-special-skin-pack-for-classic-shell/
Thanks. I like the replacement for the start button–hated that shell.
My main complaint with classic shell is just that pressing “Program Files” opens a
contextcascading menu instead of replacing the list of most recently used programs… and same with the search.Try the latest Classic Shell 3.9.0 beta from its home. We listened to you and added inline search and programs menu instead of the cascading menu.
That is called a cascading menu, not a context menu. Anyways, it will be fixed.
